Where the world meets
The MesseCity in Cologne has been developed to serve as a mixed-use quarter with space for offices, shops, hotels and eateries. The planners and designers from BDS, KSP, ASTOC and HPP were keen on creating a clear and distinctive architectural style that meets the high standards of quality and economic efficiency. The quarter constitutes the urban centre of the vibrant district. Seven thousand people will find work here in the future. The high frequency of travellers and trade fair visitors will make this an international meeting place that also lives up to the MesseCity claim “Where the world meets”.
A 16 floor high-rise building rising to a height of 60 metres as well as other perimeter block structures create a stylish ensemble and blend in with the look of the adjacent trade fair buildings from the 1920s with their clinker brick facade. Sharp-edged formparts in anthracite were used as eye-catchers for the framing of the window elements. Photos: Ditz Fejer
