Institute for Materials Resource Management
When it comes to resource efficiency, the University of Augsburg is regarded as a front-runner. The campus now has a new research building for the Institute for Materials Resource Management. The architects at Code Unique planned it as a compact, urban solitaire building. The combination of expanded metal, glazed elements and color-coordinated glassfibre reinforced concrete lends the facade a regular rhythmic appearance and a distinctive identity. The regular sequence of vertical elements gives the building envelope an unmistakable appearance. Darker concrete skin panels in chrome cleverly add focal points to the otherwise bright building.
The 11,000-square metre building accommodates classrooms, laboratories, offices and experimental halls. The complex can be used by up to 350 staff and 230 students. Photos: Ditz Fejer
