Functionality meets design
The Walter-Höllerer secondary school was completely refurbished. More space and functional areas were integrated into the building. This resulted in a modern school building that meets the highest standards in terms of educational requirements, energy use and general conceptual needs. The focus was on sustainable and durable materials. It therefore comes as no surprise that the architects used öko skin slats to clad the facade. Glassfibre reinforced concrete is a natural material that requires minimal maintenance. What is more, the elements are non-combustible, durable and robust. The new building concept reduces the energy budget by more than 75 percent compared with the old one. This is equivalent to a CO2-reduction of more than 50 tonnes a year. Photos: Ditz Fejer
