Flexible building blocks for optimal learning conditions

Two new schools were built in Spangdahlem for the children of US military personnel. Both schools will be accommodated in a large building complex. The new building, planned to LEED silver standard, has space for 625 students and 90 employees. The school center’s plans were based on the “21st Century Program” pedagogical concept. This includes, for example, that rooms can be quickly and flexibly redesigned by teachers and students. A further component of the concept is the establishment of learning communities, places to take a break and socialise and a resource center with media and information services. concrete skin panels in sahara were used for the building envelope.
