The building for sustainable chemistry is a new addition to the science center at the Straubing campus and forms the northern end of the area. The elongated, three-story complex accommodates lecture halls, seminar, office and meeting rooms, laboratories and a cafeteria. The entrance hall serves as the communicative center and divides the building into a western and an eastern wing. The facade is dominated by the materials wood and concrete. The building features timber frame construction and insulating concrete as well as formed parts made from glassfibre reinforced concrete. The L-shaped elements give the outer shell a monolithic appearance. In combination with wood, this creates an exciting contrast of mixed materials. Photos: Ditz Fejer
